Taking some time out to travel around the world is becoming ever more popular – especially in the younger generations. Travelling and working abroad has become increasingly popular and Australia is one of the favourite destinations thanks to its many different geographical landscapes. The scope for different holidays is huge, with skiing, white water rafting and going walkabout in the bush all options. However, whilst Australia makes a great destination; there are dangers that anyone travelling there must be aware of. Read on to discover why it is so important to keep your bedding safe when backpacking around Australia.
The Risks
The biggest risk faced by those travelling in Australia is that of the many indigenous poisonous animals that live there. Most of these creatures are small enough that they can get into your bedding undetected and cause you a shock later when you least expect it.
Dangerous Spiders
The animals that are most likely to get undetected into your bedding are spiders. Australia has many venomous spiders, which can cause pain, irritation and nausea. Bites involving the Red Back And Funnel Web spiders can even prove to be fatal in extreme cases.
Risk From Snakes
In addition to its dangerous spiders, Australia also has several deadly snakes. The Taipan, the Brown and the Tiger are the three most dangerous species of snake found in Australia.
Not So Cute Caterpillars
It may also surprise you to learn that there is also a selection of venomous caterpillars found in Australia. Whilst they are in no way as dangerous as spiders or snakes; the hairs that they leave in their trail can cause severe itching and swelling.
Protecting Yourself
In order to avoid coming into contact with any of these creatures you should always look over your bedding every night before going to bed. Do this by unzipping your sleeping bag and turning it inside out – be certain to check all the corners fully. And remember; although these creatures can prove to be dangerous, most of them are not aggressive and the number of deaths caused each year by their venom is tiny.
