How To Make Customized Socks

When knitting socks you should first select which yarn you want to use. There are many good sock yarns on the market, including self-striping sock yarns. Even though the sock yarns are exactly the right weight for a good pair of socks, some think that wool yarn is a superior sock yarn.

Even a newbie can learn to knit socks. The most difficult part of knitting is reading the pattern. Make sure to look closely at any pattern for the guidelines that are being highlighted.

Listed below are the materials that are necessary to knit custom socks:

· 2 sizes of 3 double-ended needles, the smaller size being for the ribbing.

· 5 (or more) balls of sock yarn depending on the pattern.

· A pattern

· Stitch markers

· A pair of scissors

· A needle

· A highlighter to mark the working copy.

There are two techniques to create knitted socks: with heels or without heels. Some job seekers think that the socks with heels are more comfy.

The size of any customized socks is determined by the size of the ankle. If you customize socks with a heel, you will need to measure the foot and determine the heel placement. When you measure the ankle, subtract 1” for an adult size and ½” for a child’s size. Generally, the ankle size for a female is 8” and for a male is 10”.

You must use sock yarn for the best match on your socks and should determine the number of stitches you need to cast on your needles. The stitches should be evenly divided between the 3 of the double point needles. Mark the 1st stitch for the beginning of the round. Do the ribbing 1st, using the smaller needles for this. Once the ribbing is completed switch to the bigger needles. The stockinette stitch is a great strong stitch to use for both the ribbing and making a simple pattern. This stitch does make a good fitting sock.

You now need to figure for the heel by positioning half the stitches on a needle. The stitches should begin of the round. Then place the second half on a different needle, allowing the heel to be knitted from the front to the back using a single needle. Yet again the stockinette stitch is used for 2 thirds to 3 quarters of the rows on the heel. Then you need to cut back the heel area and turn. Now is time to produce the gusset. You need to end up with two selvedge edges in between the heels. To make the gusset pick the stitches up. To finish the heel knit the rest of the stitches of the heel. The gusset should be decreased at this point.

When it comes to foot, it must be 2” shorter than the foot measurement. Start knitting at the center and a quarter of the stitches on the first needle then one half on the second needle then the other quarter on the third needle. Switch between even rounds and the decrease rounds. The sock can be finalized several ways. One technique is to keep on decreasing to the toe, either casting off or binding off and then sewing the remainder together.
