A Picturesque Golf Development – Sun Lakes AZ
Located in Chandler Arizona just South of Phoenix is the large, gated golf development of Sun Lakes. This master planned development is comprised of approximately 6,700 homes built between 1973 and 2006. The existing population of Sun Lakes is around 15,000. Robson communities, the developer, was also the builder on all houses. The development is comprised of 5 neighborhoods, each with their individual golf course and clubhouse.
Sun Lakes Arizona offers a wide mixture of homes to choose from ranging in size from 1,000 up to 3,500 square feet. There are numerous home types and buyers can choose from manufactured homes, town homes or single family detached homes. Prices differ widely depending on what sort of home, its location and age. The newer homes have modern floor plans and upgrades or choose an older home which might require a little work and/or upgrading. Prices at this time range from below $100,000 to more than $600,000. Association fees normally run from $75 – $125 dollars per month.
Sun Lakes offers dozens of amenities and activities and they are to many to list them all but here are just a few. Of course first and foremost is golf, plenty of golf! Then, how about tennis, dance, bingo, bridge, bowling, swimming, hiking, biking, fishing, fitness training and much, much more. If you have an hobby you enjoy Sun Lakes almost certainly has it!
Located outside the development just a brief distance is an array of shopping and stores including a Bashas supermarket, CVS Pharmacy, True Value hardware store, medical facilities, church’s and a number of small shopping centers. Downtown Phoenix is a short 24 miles away for those Phoenix Suns basketball games and Diamondback baseball games.
As most people know Phoenix home values have dropped drastically in the last few years. The distinctive thing about Sun Lakes, as well as most other retirement/golf developments in the Phoenix region, is that home values have held up fairly well considering what has happened to other Phoenix area communities. The price decline Sun Lakes has seen puts values at roughly what they were 5 years ago and these costs appear to be holding steady. With that said it’s a pretty decent period to purchase a home in the Sun Lakes area, particularly if you are financing given the existing state of interest rates.
If you want to own a winter home it’s hard to beat day time temperatures in the 70′s and night temperatures in the 40′s. An abundance of sunshine, a huge amount of activities and magnificent grounds… if you are considering proudly owning a winter home you owe it to yourself to check out Sun Lakes Arizona!
