Barcelona, the Gracia District, an Authentic One

I will say it is my fave district because it’s been able to keep a lot of its conventions and celebrations with a powerful Catalan spirit. It is terribly “alive” and everything can be found in there, including many life-changing Barcelona Apartments. Before it was a small village but in 1897, it’s been integrated to be a part of the city and it changed from town to district.

Shops are generally found at gran de gracia street and I love to walk in verdi street where I can find restaurants, bars, shops, movies in original version, supermarket… In spite that there are lots of places such as square del sol, piazza del diamante… I only like 2 – piazza de la virreina and square de rius i taulet.

The first one because it is close to a bar at santa creu street ( there’s only one so if you want to go, you can not miss it ) where I go frequently to take my tea and during summer time or bright day, I can drink a coke by seating on one of the patios and enjoy the heat. The second one is a good place to eat surrounded by trees and in the center, a clock tower in front of the mayor of Gracia giving it a sort of charm. Occasionally concerts are organized in both places.

The other streets where I can go to purchase things are thru augusta, travessera de gracia and asturies streets. Of course there are many more like bailn, corsega… But those are the ones I go often and with that, it is enough to find what I require.

One of the finest theatre theater Bosque ( rambla de prat ) is located in this district because it isn’t simple to find a good place to observe a movie with a good surround and a huge screen but only in spanish version. For folks who don’t master the language, they can go to Verdi theatre to observe them in original version but they don’t put blockbuster pictures – only 1 time I saw that they didn’t respect their rule and that was for Matrix!!!

It is not easy to stroll and even area folk get lost in this area. Fortunately for me, when I arrived at Barcelona in 2000, my first residence was in this district so I learned quickly its secret and now I can go without aid from a map!!!

The passeig de sant joan is a neat place for me to skate but only between avinguda diagonal and travessera de gracia because the center is a pedestrian zone, I just have to not fall on someone!!!

The famous Park Gell of Gaudi can be found at olot street, after climbing up the larrard street which has virtually an angle of 50 degrees ( well in fact all streets which bring me to the primary entrance ), I can enjoy this wonderful park with its different areas like the wave tunnel, the snake place… And going up a little more, a wonderful view on the city. Catching these views from Apartments in Barcelona is the highlight of any life.

Famous to be a party area, Grcia is very animated during night time and it can be very crowded particularly in the Fiesta de Grcia in Aug. Like you can guest I am going frequently there to take a cocktail and / or to dinner. There are numerous categories of foods and I can choose between Catalan, Indian, Arabic, Argentina, Japanese[**] French… All around the verdi street. If truly you want to melt and know Spanish culture and folks, this district is the best place.
