Attractive Career Options Working In The Games Workshop
Tabletop wargames are a fairly popular pastime for a good number of people. Their origin comes all the way back from the 1800’s where comparable boards were utilised to recreate battles for instructional training. The game of Kriegspiel was invented in 1811 and has plenty of resemblances to today’s adaptations of wargames. Nowadays we see successful brands like Warhammer, which is a game using miniature soldiers that are constructed and painted in many different ways. The players then battle their forces against each other using dice and tactics. One well known chain of stores that sell these miniatures is the Games Workshop and we are going to be going over what it is like taking on one of the Career Choices offered in the stores.
There are numerous Careers offered within the Games Workshop, it’s not all based in the stores. For instance there are New Careers to be found in miniatures design or working on the website team. These Careers present some incredible opportunities to get involved in the game on a whole new level. There are of course some fairly high qualifications desired for things like this though, so the main thing we are going to be reviewing is aiming for New Careers within the retail stores. Yes these positions are likely to be the lowest starting point in what Games Workshop has to offer, but they can also be some of the best fun you’ll ever have in a job.
The core responsibilities of these positions are no doubt to look after the shop and sell the merchandise to customers, just like any other store position. The major difference here though, is that you are working in a store surrounded by one of your favourite pastimes, and it doesn’t end there. In store there are usually gaming sessions going on, events for newcomers and much more. As an employee of the store you get to jump in on this action, taking part and supervising everything to keep it organised. If you ever drop by a Games Workshop store you’ll realise just what I mean, the moment you go through the door you’ll be welcomed and introduced. You’ll be asked if you’re comfortable with the game and if not, the staff have no problem in spending 15 minutes to demonstrate to you the basics of the game. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if the employees spent more time playing games and supervising events than they do behind the counter.
Acquiring these Careers isn’t especially difficult as you can likely imagine, after all it is a retail store and decent grades in GCSE English and Maths will be sufficient. The main thing the employer will search for is no doubt a strong passion for the game and a friendly and confident personality, so if you’re looking for New Careers and have a strong interest in the Warhammer games then you can’t really go wrong with this. Of course there might not be a great number of options for promotion in the store, you’d only really be able to consider progressing into a manager’s role, but it’s not the progression that you’d go there for. You’d be taking on these Career Choices because you’d be in a friendly, upbeat environment, working with a product that you like and can enjoy every day.
